The Birth of PingPoint: Why I Built a Digital Home for Table Tennis

My name is Antal Ament. Table tennis has been part of my life since childhood. After stepping away for many years, I rediscovered my passion for the game later in life.

When I started playing again in Switzerland, something struck me immediately. The table tennis community felt surprisingly underserved when it came to digital tools. The technologies in use were fragmented — not just between countries, but even within the same region. Much of what existed felt like a leftover from the previous century. That surprised me in a country as developed as Switzerland.

At the same time, I could see the sport itself gaining real momentum. More people were joining clubs. A new type of venue was emerging: 24/7 table tennis halls that seemed to be popping up left and right. Even at these newer venues, the technology — while better — was usually locked to that specific location. It wasn’t transferable. For traditional club players, there was often simply no modern solution at all.

I felt this gap most clearly during regular club evenings. We would often play five to ten matches in a single session. After the third or fourth game, manual scorekeeping started to fall apart. We would lose track of who had won, by how much, and even which set we were actually in. It was frustrating — and completely unnecessary in 2024–2025.

So I started looking at existing scorekeeping applications and table-tennis-specific providers. What I found was mostly the same pattern: local, on-device scoring tools with no real platform capabilities and almost no accompanying hardware. There was no connected experience, no social layer, and no system designed to serve both individual players and venues at the same time.

That is when the idea for PingPoint was born.

PingPoint is being built as a one-stop digital platform for the global table tennis community. Our goal is to help venues and clubs introduce modern digital services at a competitive price — without forcing them into rigid, closed systems. The first version focuses on what matters most right now: simple, reliable scorekeeping paired with a genuine social layer. We have put a lot of care into the design, aiming for something clean, modern, and enjoyable to use.

We are currently gearing up for our go-live in September 2026. There is still a lot we want to build in the months and years ahead, but this first step is about giving players and venues a solid foundation they can actually rely on.

I hope the table tennis community finds PingPoint useful. More than that, I hope people will join us inside the app and help shape what comes next.

The game has always been about connection — between players, between points, between people. It’s time the technology around it reflected that.
